The Open Minds Book Discussion Group meets monthly in a Zoom meeting, usually on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 pm.
The Group offers a respectful, safe and supportive place to explore complex topics as we hope to open our minds and our hearts.
Our next meeting will be October 23 at 7 pm, in a Zoom meeting, when we will begin to read Waking Up White by Debby Irving.
Here is a description of that book:
Waking Up White is the book Irving says she wishes someone had handed her decades ago. By sharing her sometimes cringe-worthy struggle to understand racism and racial tensions, she offers a fresh perspective on bias, stereotypes, manners, and tolerance. As Irving unpacks her own long-held beliefs about colorblindness, being a good person, and wanting to help people of color, she reveals how each of these well-intentioned mindsets actually perpetuated her ill-conceived ideas about race. She also explains why and how she’s changed the way she talks about racism, works in racially mixed groups, and understands the antiracism movement as a whole.
We have just finished a book about the spiritual aspects of aging, The Inner Work of Age, by Connie Zweig.
In January, Rev Lyn Cox will be guiding us as we read  Authentic Selves, a book celebrating trans and nonbinary people and their families. Here is a description of that book:

Authentic Selves: Celebrating Trans and Nonbinary People and Their Families is a sweeping compilation of life stories and portraits of trans and nonbinary people, as well as their partners, parents, children, siblings, and chosen family members.

The compelling stories in Authentic Selves provide a glimpse into the real lives, both the challenges and the triumphs, of these remarkable people and their families—people like Senator Sarah McBride, disability justice advocate Parker Glick, drag entertainer TAYLOR ALXNDR, September 11th first responder Jozeppi Angelo Morelli, model Lana Patel, youth activist Elliott Bertrand, and so many others—all of whom are working to create a more just, diverse, and compassionate world. Developed in collaboration with PFLAG National and Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund.

If you are interested in joining us in reading and discussing these books, we would be happy to welcome you into our group.
